Sebastian is a 9-month-old with a condition known as deformational plagiocephaly, which refers to an asymmetrical head shape from repeated pressure to the same area of the head. Pediatricians recommend babies sleep on their backs to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) from occurring, but one side effect to this sleep position is that babies can develop a misshapen head, which is what happened to baby Sebastian. Due to this condition, his head is flat is on the side.
The good news is that this condition is an easy fix by Sebastian wearing a helmet for a few months to correct the deformity. Unfortunately, Medicaid denied paying for the helmet for this family, so the parents reached out to us for help.
